Do you enjoy reading and discussing great literature? Are you looking for a way to socialize and meet new people, or a familiar atmosphere to reconnect with good friends? The library's seasonal Reading Clubs have a wonderful selection of titles that will keep you reading all year long!

Wednesday, February 6 at 1:30 p.m.

Emma Lazarus  by Esther Schor

A definitive portrait of the iconoclastic poet and activist whose words are set on the Statue of Liberty follows the complex life and times of Emma Lazarus, from her early literary success, to her roles as a feminist, Zionist, and renowned Jewish-American writer, based on previously undiscovered personal correspondence.   

Facilitator: Jan Durecki / Archivist at the Rabbi Franklin Archives at Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Hills. She has a MLIS from Wayne state University with a Specialization in Archives Management and a 2nd Masters from the University of Michigan in the Study of American Culture. Jan initiated the Jewish History Detective Lecture Series focusing on topics of general interest to the broader Jewish Community.

The Lost:  a Search for Six of Six Million by Daniel Mendelsohn

The author of The Exclusive Embrace describes how his family was haunted by the disappearance of six relatives during the Holocaust and how he embarked on a determined search to find the remaining eyewitnesses to his lost ancestors' fates, an effort that took him to a dozen countries on three continents.

Facilitator: Sharon Schwartz / holds a Masters Degree in English from Oakland University and has taught at Hillel Day School for 20 years, where she started and runs book clubs for students and parents. She is also a former facilitator for the Brandeis Women's Book Club.

 If you Awaken Love by Emuna Elon

 Forty-year-old interior designer Shlomtzion Drore is forced to confront her former fiancé, Yair Berman, a prominent rabbi, after her daughter becomes engaged to his son. 

Facilitator: Dalia Shaham / born and raised in Israel, has a vast knowledge of Judaism, Tanach, mysticism, and Israeli history and culture. She teaches Hebrew, Judaica, and Bar/Bat Mitzvah classes at Temple Israel and is an experienced book club facilitator.
