JCC Maccabi Games

The JCC Maccabi Games/ArtsFest is the largest Jewish youth event in the world. From August 17-22, 2014, Metro Detroit will welcome more than 1,500 visiting Jewish teens from across the globe and involve thousands of members from our own community, including 800 host families, 1,000 volunteers and 350 teen athletes and artists..

The JCC Maccabi Games, established in 1982, is the world’s largest organized sports program for Jewish teens. The Games were designed to provide Jewish youth with a supportive environment that fosters mutual respect and sportsmanship, where they can interact in an atmosphere of fun, democracy and peace; to cultivate a deeper understanding and instill an appreciation of Jewish values within Jewish youth, enrich their Jewish identity in an informal setting and encourage their identification with the State of Israel; and to promote and encourage the health, physical fitness and well-being of Jewish youth through participation in recreational and athletic activities.

JCC Maccabi Artsfest
In 2006 JCC Maccabi ArtsFest debuted, offering Jewish teens ages 12-17 a week long arts experience. ArtsFest allows participants to develop creative skills in a variety of areas including theatre, graphic art, painting and drawing, music and culinary arts. Thanks to a combination of workshops, performance and exhibition, the ArtsFest inspires teens and helps them develop individuality through artistic expression

Together the Games & ArtsFest will be the largest gathering of Jewish teens in the world. Participants will learn the values of teamwork, integrity, cultural pride and community service, while expanding an appreciation of Jewish values, connection to the community, enriching their Jewish identities, improving their overall health and well-being and building lifelong friendships.
