Dear Friends:

Welcome to the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit.

Since its founding in 1926, the Center has been dedicated to serving the city’s diverse and vibrant population with the very best in cultural, educational and recreational programming. With our two facilities - the Jimmy Prentis Morris Building in Oak Park and the D. Dan & Betty Kahn Building in West Bloomfield – we strive to serve everyone from the youngest of our community, who are nurtured and loved at the Sarah & Irving Pitt Child Development Center, to our honored senior participants in the Institute of Retired Professionals and The Active Life.

Each year, more than 1 million members and guests come to the Center for educational opportunities, social interaction, cultural events and a great deal of fun. Our regular programming includes Center Fitness, the Kenny Goldman Basketball League, day camps, special needs, sports and recreation, inline hockey, aquatics, libraries, the Beverly Prentis Wagner Teen Center, Center Travel, SAJE (Seminars for Adult Jewish Enrichment), the Janice Charach Gallery and annual events like the country’s biggest and best Jewish Book Fair, the Lenore Marwil Jewish Film Festival and the Stephen Gottlieb Jewish Music Festival.

As president of the Center, I am honored to work with our outstanding board of directors, lay leaders, corporate partners, volunteers and a great staff led by Executive Director Mark A. Lit. This new governance section of our Web site has been added as part of an ongoing effort to improve the visibility of your Center’s activities and processes.

Though much has changed since 1926, our goals remain the same: to make the Jewish Community Center a place where everyone feels welcome, a place of opportunity and creativity, a true center of our community.
