The High School Essay Contest
Three Finalists:

Joshua Kahn of Oak Park Michigan, Jean and Samuel Frankel Jewish Academy
Dovi Nadel of Southfield, Michigan, Akiva Hebrew Day School
Ian Zaback of Framington Hills, Michigan, Farmington High School

The first place winner and the runner's up will be announced on November 3, 2009 during our Patron Night event.

Two runners-up will receive $250 each. The top three essay winners will each receive three complimentary tickets to the Jewish Book Fair patron reception and speaking engagement featuring Martin Indyk on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 6:30 p.m.

Each student entering the contest will receive one ticket to the lecture freaturing Martin Indyk on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 7:45 p.m.

High School Essay Contest Rules

Topic: One of the most complicated issues in Middle East peace negotiations is sovereignty over Jerusalem. Do you believe that an international city, governed by both Israel and the Palestinians, is possible? If so, explain how this could work. If not, who do you believe has the most rights to retain control of the city, and why?

Guidelines: 800 words or less, typewritten, double-spaced, with numbered pages.

Essays will be judged on: Originality, creativity, eloquence of writing style,
structure and relevance to the topic.

Deadline: Essays must be received by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2009
