Featuring Director Joshua Sinclair, 7 p.m.
Joshua Sinclair is an author, actor, director and professor in comparative theology. He also is a physician, with a specialty in tropical diseases, who just returned from volunteer work in Haiti.
Sinclair’s most recent film is “Jump!” which he both wrote and directed. “Jump!” is an extraordinary true story about the early life of legendary Hollywood photographer Phillippe Halsman, known for his portraits of Alfred Hitchcock, Winston Churchill, Marilyn Monroe, President John F. Kennedy, Dorothy Dandridge and Pablo Picasso, among others, as well as a series of photos showing celebrities jumping.
On Sept. 10 1928, Halsman’s father, Morduch, was found dead during a hiking trip with his 21-year-old son, an engineering student. The police arrested Phillippe and charged him with his father’s murder. The subsequent trial, a fiasco riddled with anti-Semitism, attracted international attention; among those who spoke out on Phillippe’s behalf were Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud and Thomas Mann. “Jump” stars British actor Ben Silverstone (“Get Real”) as Phillippe and Patrick Swayze, in one of his last and most critically acclaimed roles, as Phillippe’s attorney, Richard Pressburger, a former boxer.
In addition to his work on “Jump,” Joshua Sinclair served as co-author on “The Garden of the Finzi-Continis,” the story of an aristocratic Jewish-Italian family perched on the dangerous edge of history in the late 1930s, and wrote the screenplay for “Just a Gigolo,” Marlene Dietrich’s last film.
