“Jewish Pluralism: Are There Limits?”

A Jewish adage holds that there are “70 faces to Torah,” and the Talmud notes that both the House of Shammai and House of Hillel, while they often disagreed, spoke “the words of the living God.” The concept of ahavat Yisrael (the love of all Israel) and the idea that all Jews are responsible for one another are cardinal Jewish teachings. But are there limits to tolerance?
Today, religious and political disputes over issues such as Israel, denominationalism and conversion abound in the Jewish community. This lecture will address the complex issues and problems inherent in pluralism.
