The Institute for Retired Professionals (IRP) of the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit provides an intellectual and social environment within the Jewish community for mature adults. It offers a forum, through self-directed interest groups and special events, for persons who wish to creatively use their experience, knowledge and talent for lifelong learning to enrich themselves and their community. Formed in 1985, the IRP has grown over the years thanks to an enthusiastic and well-educated membership aged 55 years and older who share a variety of interests. IRP discussion groups meet weekly or semi-monthly in West Bloomfield and Oak Park. Annually, IRP offers four lunch and learns, two four-week mini-series (fall and spring), two dinners and a luncheon, Butzel Getaway Retreat, the Lucas Lecture (focusing on issues pertaining to Israel) and the Harry Kirsh Lecture Series (dealing with timely national and international issues). IRP offers self-directed, interactive learning and rich programming open to all membership. |
