Jerry and Carol are both native Detroiters. They have three sons and daughter-in-laws, Steve and Mallery, Howard and Sharon, and Jeffrey and Wendy, and seven grandchildren all living in the area.
Throughout the years, they have been involved with numerous Jewish organizations.
When it was announced in the early 1970s that the Jewish Community Center was going to be built in West Bloomfield, they knew the importance of becoming a member of the JCC. The JCC soon became the focal point for their family in organizational activities, sports, and for socializing with other Jewish families. So began the family’s affiliation with the JCC.
From the day the West Bloomfield campus opened, both Carol and Jerry have been at the JCC at least six days a week. Their children and grandchildren have enjoyed various sport activities throughout the years.
At the JCC, Carol has served on the organization’s Board of Directors, as president of the Women's Health Club Board, and was the housing chairperson three times for the Maccabi Games. Jerry has been involved with the Maccabi Games since 1984.
Steve and Mallery have three children. Haley will be graduating Case Western Reserve this spring and will be working for Microsoft in Seattle. Lindsey attends MSU, and Andrew attends Hillel. Steve was in charge of venues for the JCC’s Maccabi Games and presently serves on the JCC’s Board of Directors.
Howard and Sharon have two children. Cole attends MSU and graduated from the Frankel Academy. Julia will be graduating Bloomfield Hills High School and then attending U of M. Howard has been a volunteer for the Maccabi Games. Sharon has served on the Board of Directors for JARC and ORT.
Jeffrey and Wendy have two children. Kaitlyn attends U of M. Alec will be graduating Cranbrook this spring. Wendy has served as finance committee chair for Jewish Family Services as well as vice president of Jewish Family Services for many years. Jeffrey is an active member on the JARC Board of Directors and previously served as president.
ABOUT THE event
Generously endowed by the Sills Family, this annual event provides support for JCC Day Camps and youth activities at the JCC. The event was named in memory of Dr. Larry D. Sills, who had a special place in his heart for camp and a passion for the growth, independence and life-long friendships it offers children. Your support keeps his dreams alive.
