"What is Human?"

Presented by C. Mike Chin and Rachel Neis

This conversation between two scholars takes ancient Jewish, Christian and pagan texts as a starting point for questioning the boundaries of the human body. Can ancient ideas about the human, the animal, the inanimate and the life of the world spur our own imaginations today?

C. Mike Chin, who holds a PhD from Duke University, teaches at the University of California at Davis.

Rachel Neis holds a PhD in Jewish Studies from Harvard and is the Jean & Samuel Frankel Chair of Rabbinics and associate professor in the history department at the Frankel Center for Judaic Studies at U-M.

Four lectures by visiting fellows
From the University of Michigan's Frankel Institute for Advanced Judaic Studies

7 p.m. Wednesdays, January 31-February 21

There is no charge for this event, which will be held at the JCC.
