Sunday, Jan. 14, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. – Practical Skills testing and written tests
Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies injuries and sudden illness until EMS takes over. Prerequisites: Minimum age 15 years; Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards surface drive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10- pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive a American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.
This is an online and classroom Lifeguarding course. Instructions for registration and completing the online portion of the class will be sent via email after registration and payment is made to the JCC. This format is ideal for participants looking to maximize learning and productivity at the same time, its self-paced and the training can be completed at your own speed. The online portion of the classroom training option provides greater convenience and the content is equivalent to a traditional course with less time spent in a classroom. Online content is accessed via the Red Cross Learning Center.
