Sports Camps

Sports camps are one week long each and allow children to choose whatever activity they love best. Each camp includes dedicated time for the specialty, plus swimming. Sports camps are available throughout the summer for children in grades 1-10 (grade going into in fall 2016). Please see descriptions below for complete information.

Advanced Archery

Held at Detroit Archers, this fantastic camp is for the older, experienced archer and will allow for more advanced shooting opportunities and lessons. By the end of camp, archers will be ready to participate in competitions.

Advanced Horseback Riding

Held at Windmill Farms, advanced Horseback Riding allows children to enjoy higher levels of training and advanced riding skills. Be sure to bring boots with a 1-inch heel and full-length pants. Communal helmets are provided or available for purchase, or campers may bring their own S.E.I.-certified helmet.

All Star Swim

Come take a dive into this super fun swim camp! This camp will feature technique instruction that will provide swimmers with the tools for success that can be applied to their training and development throughout their careers. Our Swim Camp focuses on body alignment, tone and posture as it applies to swimming as well as a healthy lifestyle. Swimmers will also refine skills needed for the four competitive strokes, plus diving, flip turns and more. Campers will be split into groups based on ability. Weather permitting we will visit a local water park during the week of July 5–8.

All Star Swim/Junior Lifeguarding

Two aquatics camps in one! Our certified Lenny K Swim Academy instructors will share their passion and knowledge with campers, where they will receive instructional swim lessons daily. Technique will be taught emphasizing body alignment and rotation, using the JCC Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy SwimRight® Method. Seasoned swimmers will also work on endurance. Skills will be refined for all four competitive strokes.

Our instructors are a team of certified lifeguards who provide a fun and safe aquatic education by developing confidence, mental and physical fitness and respect for one another. Swimmers ages 10-14 will also get an introduction to Junior Lifeguarding with a strong focus on recognizing and responding to emergencies. Campers will learn the basic components of water safety and lifeguarding, along with in-water rescues, first aid, CPR and AED.

Archery

Held at Detroit Archers, this camp will teach children the proper use of bows and arrows while they take aim at 3-D targets on the shooting range. Camp ends with a presentation for family. All equipment provided.

Baseball Fever

Children will learn the fundamentals of baseball through drills, contests and scrimmages. Kids will practice batting, pitching and play games. Campers should bring their own gloves and shoes that can be worn indoors and outdoors.

All-Star Basketball

Join Coach Shoe and his staff for a week of amazing basketball! Camp includes contests and an awards ceremony. All participants receive a 16-panel basketball to keep and will play two games each day. Best of all, former Pistons great John Long will visit on the last day of camps.

Canoeing/Kayaking

Children learn basic techniques of canoeing and kayaking at Heavner Canoe on the Huron River. Paddle to Proud Lake Waterfall, Powers Pond & Campground and Milford Central Park, and then portage to points beyond. This will be one awesome ride! Life jackets provided.

Cheerleading

Held at American All Stars, this camp will teach children chants, cheers, jumps, stunts and basic tumbling, leaps and turns. At the end of this high-energy, super-fun week, campers will perform in a show for family and friends! Participants should wear clean athletic shoes with a flat sole.

Coach G’s Soccer

Children can kick ahead of the competition by learning dribbling, trapping, passing and shooting! Our popular Coach Gronthik Chatterjee and his staff teach the basic skills and plenty of cool tricks so kids can develop their game.

Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive & Dodge

In this action packed camp based on the game of dodgeball, campers will learn and play a variety of games that rely on hand eye coordination. They will play variations of dodgeball, hand ball, ga-ga and end the week with a trip to AirTime where we will take things up to the next level playing dodgeball on the trampolines.

*Waiver to airtime is required

Fencing

En garde! Children develop fine and gross-motor skills, learn balance, coordination and strength while engaging in critical thinking in this awesome fencing class! On the last day, students will show off their skills. Wear comfortable workout clothes. All equipment provided.

Gymnastics

Campers will be divided into groups based on age and ability. Gymnasts will work on the vault, bars, beams, floor and Tumble Track, with progressive lessons each day. The emphasis will be on building strength, flexibility and having fun!

Hip Hop Dance

This fun, high-energy dance camp will definitely have you movin’ to the beat! Just let loose and develop creativity, coordination and musicality. Activities include basic hip hop dance moves, dance games and non-stop entertainment. No experience needed. Don’t miss the end-of-week hip hop dance class performance!

Horseback Riding

Children trot, gallop and canter their way through the summer while receiving instruction in riding, handling, feeding, grooming and care of horses. Campers must wear long pants and closed-toed shoes (no sandals or loafers); communal helmets are provided or available for purchase, or bring your own S.E.I.-certified helmet.

Hunt Seat Riding

Held at Windmill Farms, this camp is perfect for anyone who has ever wanted to be in a horse show! Both beginners and experienced riders will have a chance to develop or perfect skills including jumping, riding English style and daily horse care.

Grades 3-5; 6-9

Inline Hockey

Learn skills, go through drills, play in scrimmage games and, of course, have an incredible time! Campers must provide their own equipment, including skates with no black-back brakes, shin guards, elbow pads, gloves, HECC-approved helmet, hockey stick and athletic supporter.

JCC Maccabi Games

Girls and boys are invited to join Coach Shoe and his staff for a fabulous week of sports! Like the JCC Maccabi Games athletes, they will play basketball, flag football, soccer, floor hockey, swimming, table tennis, baseball and track.

Karate

Held at American All Stars, campers will spend their time in the dojo learning karate moves, punches, kicks, counting and playing karate games. On Friday the karate campers will perform the skills they have learned throughout the week and have a white belt graduation ceremony.

Our dojo (karate room) is air conditioned, but our goal is to still make them work hard and sweat!

Campers should wear comfortable clothes, they can go with bare feet or wear socks but must have hair pulled back out of their face if long enough.

Lacrosse/Field Hockey with Coach Shoe

Join Coach Shoe and his staff to play these two sports. From face-offs to fast breaks, campers will acquire the fundamental skills, play scrimmage games and learn about team play.

NFL Flag Football

Football is the number one sport in the United States, and in this camp children will learn the fundamentals of both offense and defense in this great game! Camp will be run by Eric Stocz, formerly of the Detroit Lions.

Outdoor Survival

Led by Heavner Nature Connection, this camp takes kids on a journey to get back in touch with Mother Nature. Working in groups, they will learn how to build a shelter and a debris hut, spend a day canoeing and make a fire using a magnesium block and striker. They’ll also take memorable walks in the woods as they study plants, trees and animal tracks. Campers should dress for the outdoors.

Ropes Adventure

In this exciting camp, children will participate in activities that involve real and imaginary obstacles as they challenge themselves mentally, physically and emotionally on an eco-friendly ropes course. Campers will learn teamwork strategies and the importance of planning, cooperation and communication. The program is entirely outdoors, giving the campers a great opportunity to connect with nature, boys and girls will use the high ropes and climbing facilities as they develop confidence and self-esteem whilst working up the levels of difficulty.

Splash Adventure

Kids who dream of being cool when it’s hot outside will love coming to Red Oaks, Rolling Hills, Waterford Oaks, and Soak City at Cedar Point water parks, then finishing the week at Turtle Cove. Get ready for water slides, wave pools and making a big splash! (The trip to Soak City at Cedar Point will be an extended day.)

Tennis

Coach Shoe and his staff will offer the FULL tennis experience, from serves to volleys to drop shots to slices. Become a tennis ace and have a great time, too! Awards presented at the end of the week. Campers should bring their own racquets.
